How to use Modbus I/O MODULES
OEE Coach Modbus IO Modules
Our ICPDAS ethernet I/O modules all talk ‘ModBus’. The question is what the user wants to do.
You may want to switch a light on via the box: This would take an OUTPUT channel. To switch two different lights you would need TWO channels OUTPUT.
You may want to read a temperature-sensor; this would take an ANALOG INPUT: One channel per temperature sensor.
Or you may want to read a digital signal; 1 or 0. This is what most of the product sensors do: The give +24v when they see a product and 0v when not.
So if you want to read a good-product sensor, a checkweigher reject sensor and a metal-detector reject sensor, you would need 3 digital input signals (=reading 3 channels)
So each box has its unique IP address. On that address (for our box) we have to tell the system on which channel which sensor is giving what kind of signal; e.g. Reject Checkweigher
At this moment we do not use output signals, but you may expect in the future we will allowing to light up andon-poles on the machine, giving a visual signal to the operator about running or not.
ET-7052 (OEE Coach Standard box)
To do so order the ET-7052 Ethernet I/O Module with 8-ch DI, 8-ch DO (this is our standard box)
- Ethernet I/O Module/Modbus TCP/8DI/8DO
- Built-In Webserver: configuration, monitoring with standard Webbrowser
- Modbus UDP/TCP
- I/O Pair Connection
- 8 isolated digital input channels (wet contact) with 32-bit counter
- 8 isolated digital output channels (open-collector, max 300 mA per channel)
- Power Supply: 10-30 VDC (ET-7052) or 12-48VDC / POE (PET-7052)
- DIN-Rail Mounting
- The ET-7052/PET-7052/ET-7252/PET-7252 provides 8 wet contact digital input channels and 8 source-type digital output channels. It features optical isolation for 2500 VDC of transient overvoltage protection but doesn’t provide channel-to-channel isolation. Each input channel can be used as a 32-bit counter and each output channel can drive 650 mA load. The power-on value and safe value of digital output channel are programmable. It can safely be used in applications where hazardous voltages are present.
An alternative is:
ET-7051
ModBus ethernet module ET-7051 16 In
- Ethernet I/O Module/Modbus TCP/16DI
- Built-In Webserver: configuration, monitoring with standard Webbrowser
- Modbus UDP/TCP
- I/O Pair Connection
- 16 isolated digital input channel (wet contact) with 32-bit counter
- Power Supply: 10-30 VDC (ET-7051) or 12-48VDC / POE (PET-7051)
- DIN-Rail Mounting
- The ET-7051/PET-7051/ET-7251/PET-7251 provides 16 wet contact digital input channels. Each input channel can be used as a 32-bit counter. It features optical isolation for 3750 Vrms of transient overvoltage protection but doesn’t provide channel-to-channel isolation. It can safely be used in applications where hazardous voltages are present.
24v Power
You also need a power source such as this one:

Connecting Hardware to OEE Coach
First time accessing the module via IP Address
- Connect the module via UTP cable with your Inter/intranet
- Connect power to module
- Set switch at the back of the module to INIT
- Start miniOS7 Utility
- Press F12 to search your module:

6. If your module is found, it is connected correctly; you can now see its details:

- Change the IP settings as desired to access the module from now on by clicking [IP Settings]. Entering an astrix (*) will keep the current settings
- Place switch of the ET7xxx module back to normal and reboot the module
- Press F12 again. Are all IP settings correct?
- Start your browser and enter the IP address as URL to access the internal web-server of the ET7XXX module:
- Enter the module with user Admin, Pasword Admin
Accessing the Webserver in the ET-7XXX Module
When performed the steps described previously, you now enter the modules web-server:
- Check the settings; (See modules manual) normally you do not need to change anything here.
- Connect your sensor to the module i.e. on DI01 (Digital In 1)
- Go to menu [Web HMI]

4. Test the sensor: you should see the channel counting the pulses detected by the sensor.
